DNV GL is looking to recruit a Business Lead for our Renewable Energy Analytics Department in our Bristol, London or Glasgow offices, UK. This role is a permanent position, however it is to be a maternity leave cover for the first 12 months to 18 months, evolving to a permanent position of similar nature within the same department. The role entails a good balance between technical and commercial aspects and would suit someone looking for a technical, commercial and customer facing role, whom is driven to develop services, industry and markets.

This appointment is with the Renewables Advisory business within DNV GL.  DNV GL is one of the world’s largest provider of independent renewable energy advice and a recognised authority in onshore wind energy.  We are also at the forefront of the offshore wind, wave, tidal and solar sectors.  Our team of dedicated experts are present in all major and emerging global markets for renewable energy.

The Business Lead, reporting to the Renewable Energy Analytics Head of Department (HoD), will work within the Renewable Energy Analytics department to lead the delivery and development of the services within its remit.

Position Description:

As the Business Lead for operational analytics and forecaster, the Business Lead will be focused on the business development of services such as short-term Forecasting, WindGemini (Digital Twin). SCADA data analysis; including operational energy yield assessment, performance optimisation, benchmarking of operational performance and costs and condition monitoring. These services are mainly for wind and solar technology.

Other aspects of the role include the delivery and project management of technical work delivering the services detailed above and being involved with putting together commercial proposals for and delivering projects spanning multiple services for DNV GL.

The role will be focused on the North Europe, Middle East and Africa markets, with a global remit for some of the services such as forecaster and WindGemini.

As a Business Lead and Senior Engineer, the individual will be expected to:

  • Lead business development activities for the relevant services, in coordination with Business Directors, other Business Leads and HoD.

  • Represent DNV GL at market and business development events.

  • Support the continuous improvement of the business through strategic and industry oversight.

  • Co-ordinate the resourcing of work with Team Leads and Heads of Department as appropriate.

  • Promote and monitor the teams work meets the required standards and follows best practice guidelines, and ensures the harmonization of approach and methodologies across the different teams in the department.

  • Lead cross departmental commercial offers and ensure technical and commercial consistency of all the commercial offers, for the relevant services, in the department.

  • Gathers industry information and customer feedback to support strategy development.

  • Project Management and delivery of technical work, ensuring work is conducted within timescales and to budget.

  • Undertake technical work that may include the following:

    • Undertake pre or post-construction energy production assessments;

    • Undertake site conditions assessments;

    • Produce detailed reports which review the feasibility of sites for development;

    • Short-term forecasting;

    • SCADA analysis;

    • Monitoring the performance of operating wind farms for owners and lenders;

    • Proposal writing;

    • Participate in R&D projects as and when required;

    • Project management, including budget control;

    • Participate in industry groups and present at conferences as appropriate.

  • Any other duties as directed by line management.

The project work is often fast paced with tight timeframes.  The candidate must be willing to work with complex tasks under such deadline pressure, and be comfortable in managing workflow to deliver work on time (working with line manager and other team members to allocate work effectively).

Position Qualifications

Essential:

  • Experience in the renewables industry in a technical consulting capacity (as an indication a minimum of 3 years).

  • Significant experience in delivering technical services of the nature described above (as an indication a minimum of 3 years).

  • Significant experience in managing commercial offers (as an indication a minimum of 3 years).

  • Experience in presenting technical subjects at conferences, industry events and customer meetings.

  • An appropriate higher degree in an engineering or science subject, with minimum classification of 2:1 (or comparable). This will preferably include degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Meteorology, Physics or any other relevant engineering or science degree.

  • Communicates in a clear, precise and structured way; speaks with authority and conviction; presents effectively.

  • Ability to develop and influence people. Promotes career and self-development.

  • A team player with energy and enthusiasm.

  • Proven ability to produce clear written reports and communicate verbally in English.
